If we cannot read the story of Moses’s last words in the same power as did the prophets, priests, and sages of ancient Israel and the apostolic church, then it is hard to claim that we and they share the same faith, at least in much depth. This theological commentary is a recovery project. I think Christians need to put up or shut up. We need to read Deuteronomy as a volume in the canon of the church of Jesus Christ, and to do it well.
